Avocation Therapy is a recreation therapy agency based in Blacksburg, Virginia, serving clients in the surrounding area and offering virtual telehealth options for clients farther afield. The agency supports people with disabilities in improving their quality of life, independence, and social functioning through meaningful recreational activities. Its approach addresses five areas of health: physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual.
Rather than focusing only on activities, Avocation Therapy helps clients discover personal interests and build skills they can practice and use in functional, real-life settings. Services include home-based and community-based recreation therapy, as well as telehealth. The agency aims to help clients access and contribute to their communities, meeting individuals where they are and supporting participation at a suitable pace and setting.
Avocation Therapy also promotes inclusive community experiences, including sensory-friendly events such as bowling. Appointments are available by arrangement, and the agency invites individuals and families to contact its team to discuss whether its services are a good fit
