About Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia
AVONA, the Catholic Church in Bahrain, is an integral part of the Universal Church led by the Pope. With a rich history dating back to the 1930s, the Catholic community in Bahrain has flourished, with approximately 1,000 Bahraini citizens practicing their faith. The Sacred Heart Church, a cornerstone of the community, was the first Catholic church in the Persian Gulf and continues to serve over 80,000 Catholics.
Administered by Capuchin Friars Minor, the parishes also receive care from the Comboni Sisters, providing education and pastoral support. As the Catholic population grew, facilities like St. Barth's Hall and the multipurpose center were established to meet their needs.
