About Awayhomekamloops
A Way Home Kamloops is a dynamic brand that is actively working towards ending youth homelessness in Kamloops, British Columbia. Comprising 158 members from various sectors, including businesses, nonprofits, youth, landlords, and community members, they are deeply committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable youth. Starting from humble beginnings in 2012, A Way Home Kamloops has emerged as a pioneer in addressing youth homelessness.
Their journey began with a grassroots collective meeting in an abandoned building, driven by the passion to provide housing for youth aging out of care. Recognizing the collective's potential, the City of Kamloops invited them to lead the youth homelessness action plan, giving rise to A Way Home. The success of A Way Home Kamloops has garnered international attention, leading to the establishment of A Way Home Canada, A Way Home America, and A Way Home Scotland.
Through their core values of First Voices Leadership, Supportive Environment, Respect, Innovation, and Sustainable Movement, they strive to empower those with lived expertise to guide the movement, foster compassion and understanding, build trusting relationships, encourage creativity and ambition, and ensure consistent growth. Their community plan to end youth homelessness is at the heart of their efforts, focusing on prevention, housing, and support. With a strategic framework and an implementation plan, A Way Home Kamloops is dedicated to creating a society where all youth have a safe place to call home and access to the necessary support for their well-being.
As pioneers in their field, A Way Home Kamloops has conducted a youth homelessness count, gathering insightful data and giving voice to the hopes and concerns of 129 homeless youth. They have also co-founded the B. C.
Coalition to End Youth Homelessness, collaborating with organizations across the province to develop a comprehensive plan that ensures safe housing and sustained support. By aligning their work with core values and incorporating the principles of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, A Way Home Kamloops is making a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of young people experiencing homelessness. With their dedication, innovation, and collaborative approach, they are leading the way towards a better future for all
