About The African Women Lawyers Association
The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) is an international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights and welfare of women and children. Established in 1997 in Nairobi City, Kenya, AWLA works in collaboration with the African Union, United Nations, and has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC). AWLA aims to create a society free from abuse, discrimination, and indignity towards women and children.
The organization, comprised of individual members and affiliate organizations, focuses on advocacy, legal empowerment, and awareness campaigns to enhance the legal status of women and children. AWLA offers a range of services, including sensitization programs, legal assistance, and advocacy for legislative reforms to address issues such as gender inequality, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and harmful traditional practices. Through its initiatives, AWLA strives to empower women and children by providing access to justice and promoting their rights and interests
