The AWO Bundesverband is the national association of the Workers’ Welfare Association, one of Germany’s oldest welfare organisations, founded in 1919. Guided by freedom, equality, justice, solidarity and tolerance, it represents the political interests of AWO’s regional and district associations in Germany and internationally. The organisation works to promote peaceful coexistence in a democratic, diverse society with fair and sustainable structures. Its priorities include democracy and diversity, sustainability and innovation, poverty and social security, children and families, health and care, participation, migration and European policy.

The Bundesverband informs the public, develops projects and campaigns, contributes ideas and supports innovation across the organisation. It publishes news, policy positions, press materials and other publications, and offers advisory services and professional training through its Bundesakademie. Its website also features a podcast, newsletter and shop. People can get involved through AWO membership, volunteering, voluntary service and donations. Across Germany, the wider AWO network comprises regional, district and local associations, supported by members and a large range of facilities and services.
