About Axis BJJ
Axis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Christchurch's premier BJJ club, traces its roots back to Tokyo, Japan, where Rickson Gracie Black Belt Takamasa Watanabe founded the dojo. In September 2010, Axis NZ was established by Heydan Bucknell and Trevor Johnstone, aligning with the international Axis association. Axis NZ mirrors the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere of its Tokyo counterpart, emphasizing personal growth and sportsmanship in a friendly environment.
The club aims to enhance Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the South Island by hosting seminars with renowned Black Belts worldwide. With establishments in Japan, Australia, the U. K, Korea, and Canada, Axis Jiu Jitsu boasts over 1,000 members globally.
The Christchurch headquarters, along with satellite clubs in Kaiapoi and Rolleston, offers diverse classes and experienced instructors like Heydan Bucknell, Trevor Johnstone, Cam Steer, and more, catering to all skill levels and ages.
