About AZJerome
Jerome, Arizona is a historic copper-mining town perched near the top of Cleopatra Hill, between Prescott and Flagstaff. Founded in 1876, it grew from a camp of tents into a major mining community and was once Arizona’s fourth-largest city, with a population of about 15,000 in the 1920s. After the Phelps Dodge mine closed in 1953, residents promoted Jerome as a historic ghost town. The town became a National Historic District in 1967 and has since developed into a tourist and artist hub with around 450 residents.
The Jerome visitor website helps travelers plan a visit through information on local attractions, dining, shops, lodging, wine and spirits, and a gallery and map. It presents Jerome as a destination with a distinctive mining past and a lively present, shaped by artists, musicians, and local businesses. The site also introduces nearby Verde Valley and central Arizona communities, including Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Sedona, Camp Verde, Prescott, Prescott Valley, and Chino Valley, with links to community information and maps.
