About AZLuminaria
AZ Luminaria is a nonprofit newsroom that is dedicated to providing truly local news and community-centered journalism. They listen, learn, and light a path for people who are seeking local news that is not only a source of information but also a resource for action, equality, and democracy. Recognizing the lack of journalists in many cities, towns, and Indigenous lands across Arizona, AZ Luminaria aims to fill this gap by shining a light on government and power when it fails to work in the best interest of the people.
Their values include prioritizing the needs of people and communities, being accountable to all Arizonans (especially vulnerable communities), and valuing the stories, strengths, and struggles of all Arizonans. Founded by Irene McKisson, Dianna Náñez, and Becky Pallack, who collectively have more than 50 years of experience in Arizona newsrooms, AZ Luminaria is committed to making local news equitable, relevant, helpful, community-centered, and accessible for all Arizonans
