Azores Surf Center is a locally run surf school and rental shop on Santa Bárbara beach in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, Azores. Opened in 2013 by Josephine and Ricardo, the center aims to offer friendly, personal and professional support to visitors and locals who want to learn to surf or improve their skills. Its experienced, certified instructors teach insured lessons and the school is licensed by the Azores Tourism Board.
Lessons suit complete beginners, advanced beginners and intermediate surfers, with group and private options for individuals, families and groups. Sessions last about 90 minutes, and surfboards and wetsuits are included. Lesson locations and times depend on the season and conditions, with online booking available.
The shop also rents surfboards in a range of styles, bodyboards, swim-fins and wetsuits, with half-day, daily and multi-day rates. Beyond surfing, Azores Surf Center promotes respect for the ocean through beach cleanups and educational initiatives.
