About First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine
The 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine Azov is a newly established operational-tactical unit formed from the Special Operations Brigade Azov and various brigades of the National Guard that have demonstrated resilience in pivotal battles. Officially created on March 7, 2025, through an order by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Corps aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of combat units under a unified command structure. It comprises several specialized brigades, including the 1st Presidential Operational Brigade Bureviy and the 12th Special Operations Brigade Azov.
Under the leadership of Brigadier General Denys Redis Prokopenko, the 1st Corps is tasked with vital objectives such as liberating temporarily occupied territories, destroying enemy combatants and equipment, and improving overall military capabilities. This modernized structure promotes coordinated action and shared responsibility in defense and offensive operations. With a continuing recruitment drive, the 1st Corps Azov is not just a military formation but an embodiment of commitment to Ukraine’s national integrity and defense.
