About Babushka Adoption
Babushka Adoption Foundation | Bishkek is a charitable organization dedicated to providing financial support and individual sponsorship to lonely older adults in extreme poverty. The term babushka means Granny or an older lady in Russian, reflecting the organization's commitment to caring for the elderly in Kyrgyzstan. Following the economic crisis that occurred after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Kyrgyzstan faced significant challenges in providing basic social services to its citizens, particularly the elderly.
Many older adults were left without means of survival as the cost of living increased and younger generations migrated in search of work. In response to this pressing issue, the Babushka Adoption project was established in 1999 with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Today, the Babushka Adoption Charitable Foundation operates in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, as well as in the Leilek district of Batken region and Belovodskoe village in Chui region.
Their dedicated team, led by Director Aidai Kadyrova, works tirelessly to improve the lives of vulnerable older people in Kyrgyzstan. If you're interested in making a difference and becoming a partner or sponsor, please reach out to Babushka Adoption Foundation | Bishkek at info@babushkaadoption. org.
