In response to the increase in homelessness across Alberta, Baby it's Cold Outside has increased efforts to help supply Alberta’s homeless shelters with much-needed supplies to support the growing demand for basic necessities. Baby its Cold Outside has expanded from a one-city annual clothing drive into an ongoing province-wide charity drive that collects basic necessities, such as clothing, food, toiletries and more. In the longer term, our goal is to offer transitional housing to further support those who are working to rebuild their lives and need a hand up to find their way and reach independence. We also plan on facilitating a number of life-coaching sessions, including but not limited to: addiction recovery and maintenance, career development, resume building, and domestic violence recovery. Baby It’s Cold Outside (BCO) is a community charity serving Okotoks, High River, Diamond Valley, and surrounding Foothills communities in rural Alberta. Its mission is to help neighbours through difficult times with practical support, compassion, and connection, while protecting people’s dignity and privacy. The charity’s annual Christmas Feast provides holiday dinners and small gifts to local families, seniors, and individuals who could use support. Recipients may nominate themselves or be referred by community members; volunteers deliver meals tailored to household size, traditions, and dietary needs. The program is made possible by fundraising, community partners, and individual donations.
Beyond the holidays, BCO supports people facing illness, grief, housing insecurity, mental health challenges, and unexpected crises, often working with local agencies to connect neighbours with help. The charity has also supported rural mental wellness initiatives, including the Headstrong Program, delivered with Wellness Innovate and Government of Alberta funding. Although that program is no longer funded, BCO remains committed to reducing stigma and finding ways to support mental wellness.
