Back 2 Blacktop.

Back 2 Blacktop is a nonprofit initiative focused on bringing communities together and supporting the well-being and development of youth and young adults. Working across schools, churches, parks, and neighborhoods, the organization promotes a multigenerational “village” of coaches and community members who help young people grow through art, athletics, academics, and life skills.

Its core work transforms basketball courts and other public spaces into welcoming places for play, connection, and creative expression, often using colorful murals to renew local “blank canvases.” Back 2 Blacktop organizes community preparation and cleanup, invites local artists and former athletes to contribute, and brings residents together for celebratory events when projects are unveiled. The organization also welcomes donations, nominations, and community suggestions for future locations, with projects planned across communities in North Carolina. By combining art, recreation, and local participation, Back 2 Blacktop aims to foster positive relationships, community pride, and healthier minds and bodies—one community at a time.
