A BACKUP MX SERVICE

Backup MX by Intertune is an email continuity service for businesses that want to protect incoming messages during mail-server outages. Customers add the service’s backup MX record for a domain, after which Backup MX accepts and stores incoming email when the primary mail server is unavailable. During an outage, users can access messages received over the previous seven days while they restore their server. Once it is back online, the queued messages are automatically delivered to it.

The service says it places no limits on the number of messages it can spool or the disk space they use, with messages retained for up to seven days. To help reduce spam, it uses greylisting and reputable blacklists; the site states these measures curb more than 95% of spam. Reporting on spooled mail is also included.

Backup MX is priced at $89 per year for one domain. Its offering is positioned as an affordable option with read access to stored email, and the company provides a seven-day money-back guarantee.
