BackyardCritter

Backyard Critter is a family-run wildlife information website created from the owners’ curiosity about the animals that visit their yard and their experience caring for a dog sprayed by skunks. Its goal is to help people understand and live alongside nearby wildlife while keeping pets and outdoor spaces safe. The site also offers ideas for welcoming more wildlife into a yard.

Backyard Critter covers animal profiles and practical guidance on common wildlife, including raccoons, skunks, coyotes, deer, opossums, squirrels, birds, and insects. Its articles explore topics such as identifying skunk species, deterring skunks humanely, understanding coyotes in urban and suburban environments, creating deer-resistant spaces, and potential risks to dogs from wild animal waste. Organized sections address critters and pets, wildlife problems, and attracting animals, making the site a resource for readers seeking both general animal information and ways to manage everyday encounters.

The website participates in affiliate programs, including Amazon’s, to help support its operations and research.
