Backyards for Biodiversity is an environmental group focused on bringing nature back to towns and suburbs, particularly urban areas of South East Queensland. Its central message is that even small gardens can make a meaningful contribution to wildlife conservation. The organization encourages people to create biodiverse backyards by planting native species and providing water sources, helping create habitat for birds, bees, butterflies, frogs and other native wildlife.
Backyards for Biodiversity offers information and practical guidance for getting started, alongside resources, a regional biodiversity blog and a photo gallery. It invites individuals to learn, plant and connect with nature, and offers membership for people who want to join the effort to rewild urban areas. Its work also reaches beyond private gardens through initiatives for northern and southern councils, schools and churches.
With a mission to reconnect communities with nature, the group presents backyard biodiversity as an accessible way to support ecological restoration and make a difference close to home
