Back Your Neighbour

Back Your Neighbour is the public-facing campaign of the Mayoral and Councillor Taskforce Supporting People Seeking Asylum. It brings together close to 50 local governments and more than 90 community partners to advocate for people seeking asylum and promote a fair, welcoming Australia. The campaign highlights the uncertainty faced by people whose visa situations remain unresolved, including individuals and families who have lived and contributed to their communities for many years without stability or access to essential support.

Back Your Neighbour calls on the Federal Government to help people navigate the immigration process and provide greater certainty while they rebuild their lives. Its work includes community advocacy, campaigning, sharing resources and achievements, and encouraging supporters to email their MPs and sign petitions. The taskforce also offers opportunities for local governments, community organisations and individuals to connect and show support. Through collective action, it seeks to stand alongside neighbours, friends and community members, and to advance justice, compassion and practical support for people seeking asylum.
