The Bader Lab is a computational biology research group led by Professor Gary Bader at the University of Toronto in Canada. Its work focuses on systems biology at the cell and tissue levels, using computational approaches to support biological discovery and precision medicine. The lab has contributed to network and pathway analysis and to the interpretation of genomics data. More recently, it has been developing methods and an ecosystem theory of tissue function based on single-cell genomics. This research considers interactions between cells, cell growth, and internal mechanisms such as pathways, reactions, and causal relationships, with applications to understanding development, cancer, and regenerative wound healing.
The lab also develops open-source biological pathway and network resources, along with software for visualization and analysis. Its projects include Cytoscape, Pathway Commons, and GeneMANIA, developed collaboratively with other groups. The lab is affiliated with several University of Toronto research and academic centres, as well as the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research’s MacMillan Multiscale Human Program. Its home is the Donnelly Centre in Toronto.
