About Badminton
Badminton New Zealand is the leading national body dedicated to promoting and advancing the sport of badminton in New Zealand. With a rich history dating back to 1927, we have been actively involved in the development of badminton for over nine decades. As a founding member of the International Badminton Federation (now BWF), we have played a pivotal role in establishing and shaping the sport globally.
Operating under the Oceania Confederation, alongside Australia and several Pacific Island nations, Badminton New Zealand is committed to fostering the growth of badminton at all levels. Notably, our efforts have led to badminton becoming the fastest-growing sport in secondary schools across the country, with over 10,000 passionate participants. With this momentum, badminton has surpassed all other racquet sports to become the number one choice for young people aged 13-18.
Our primary goal is to inspire Kiwis to embrace badminton for life. To achieve this, we offer a range of services and programs that cater to players of all ages and skill levels. We organize a comprehensive events calendar that includes national rankings, domestic and international tournaments, as well as coaching and training programs.
Additionally, we emphasize the importance of integrity in the sport by actively addressing anti-match fixing and anti-doping. To support the growth of badminton in New Zealand, we have a dedicated team comprising experienced professionals who oversee various aspects of the sport, from player performance to coach development and event coordination. Our board of directors brings a diverse range of skills and expertise to the organization, ensuring effective governance and strategic decision-making.
