About Bahamas Bar Association
The Bahamas Bar Association, established in 1971, is the largest professional organization in the country. With over 1,000 attorneys, their aim is to promote, preserve, and provide regulatory oversight to the legal profession while protecting the Rule of Law and the Administration of Justice in The Bahamas. The Bar Association consists of the Bar Council, which governs the Association, appoints members of the Ethics Committee and Disciplinary Tribunal, and ensures compliance with the Legal Profession Act.
The Ethics Committee handles complaints against attorneys, while the Bar's Administrative Office manages the day-to-day affairs and supports lawyers and the public. Membership in the Bahamas Bar Association is mandatory for attorneys, but limited to Bahamian citizens. However, attorneys of other nationalities can be specially admitted for particular matters or become registered associates if qualified.
The Bar Association also organizes events, seminars, workshops, legal aid clinics, and Call Days for new attorneys. Their office is open Monday to Thursday, 9am-5pm, and Friday 9am-3pm
