Ballona Creek

Ballona Creek Renaissance (BCR) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1996 and based in Culver City and Del Rey, Los Angeles County. It works to connect local communities with Ballona Creek and its watershed, treating the creek as an ecological and community resource while recognizing its role in regional flood protection. In partnership with public agencies, nonprofits, schools, businesses and residents, BCR promotes environmental, artistic, recreational and educational initiatives.

Its activities include organizing creek and wetlands cleanups, as well as “Takin’ it from the Streets” efforts that help keep litter from reaching waterways. The organization supports native California gardens and water-retention projects, offers community and classroom education about watershed and ocean health, and advocates for pollution reduction and the preservation of open land near wetlands. BCR also creates and supports public art, including murals along the creek, and promotes recreation and community participation through events, presentations, tours and volunteer opportunities. Its work aims to improve water quality, ecosystems, education, recreation and the attractiveness of the watershed.
