About BalticSeaH2
BalticSeaH2 is a groundbreaking initiative devoted to establishing a significant hydrogen valley across the Baltic Sea region, aimed at creating an integrated hydrogen economy to promote energy self-sufficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Launched in June 2023, this ambitious project brings together 40 partners from nine countries—Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden—to develop the first cross-border hydrogen market in Europe.
The project spearheads over 20 use cases and more than 10 investment cases, totaling around 4 billion euros, and is projected to produce 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually by its conclusion. The strategic location between southern Finland and Estonia utilizes existing natural gas pipelines and electricity grids, fostering optimal conditions for hydrogen infrastructure. Additionally, initiatives such as the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor aim to bolster the hydrogen economy while minimizing carbon footprints in marine traffic. Supported by EU funding, BalticSeaH2 is set to redefine the hydrogen landscape in the region over the next five years.
