Hassan Fathy is a renowned architectural figure celebrated for his revolutionary approach to sustainable building, particularly exemplified in his work at New Gourna, near Luxor, Egypt. His philosophy centers on utilizing local materials and integrating architecture with the environment, emphasizing the importance of building from the ground up using materials native to the site, such as Nile mud. This method not only respects traditional craftsmanship but also embraces the climate's demands through design rather than technology.

The thick walls and strategically placed courtyards in Fathy's structures provide natural cooling and light, showcasing a harmonious relationship with the surrounding landscape. His principles have influenced many architects, including those at Balzar Architects, who continue to honor his legacy by focusing on context-specific designs. They incorporate Fathy's ideals by ensuring that every project, from homes to larger developments, responds to its unique topography and climate while maintaining a commitment to authenticity in materials and color.

Fathy's enduring method prioritizes the logic of local architecture, making it applicable to contemporary practices
