ONG Banco de Alimentos (OBA) is a Brazilian nonprofit founded by Luciana Chinaglia Quintão to help combat hunger and food waste. For 28 years, it has worked to improve food security through an integrated mission to nourish, educate, and transform. Its three main areas are food collection and distribution, nutrition education, and public awareness and advocacy.
Through its Colheita Urbana program, OBA collects food from farms, industry, and retailers that is no longer commercially valuable but remains safe to eat. After sorting, storage, and transport, the food is delivered to 65 registered social institutions, which collectively serve 45,000 people experiencing vulnerability. The organization also provides basic and digital food baskets through its initiatives and supports its wider network in other cities.
OBA’s educational work promotes better use of donated food, nutrition, and sustainability, while its awareness activities encourage public engagement with hunger and food waste. Individuals and companies can support the organization through donations and partnerships.
