Banco do Bebé is a Portuguese public-benefit association founded in 1991 at Maternidade Dr. Alfredo da Costa. It supports babies and families facing hardship, with the aim of helping every newborn begin life with dignity while strengthening parents in their caregiving role. Its work serves children up to six years old and combines practical assistance with professional and emotional support.

The association operates across five areas: home visits, psychosocial support, essential goods for babies, assistance to mothers during hospital stays at Maternidade Dr. Alfredo da Costa, and support for the hospital’s Human Milk Bank. Home-based services help connect families with care and support in their living environments, while material aid can include items such as clothing, nappies and other necessities. Banco do Bebé also assists families as they prepare to care for newborns after discharge.

People can contribute by donating, sponsoring a family, becoming a member or volunteering. The organisation also shares news, campaigns and solidarity initiatives to encourage wider community support for the families it accompanies.
