The Band Association of New South Wales (BANSW) is the peak body representing community and school brass and concert bands across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. With a history spanning 130 years, the association works to promote musical knowledge and fellowship, coordinate banding activities, represent and protect bands’ interests, and encourage public appreciation of band music.
BANSW supports its members through a wide range of information, services and opportunities. These include band insurance, community band grants, a sheet music library, composer and publisher databases, long service awards, and guidance on music licensing and musicians’ baggage allowances. The association also connects bands with events and development opportunities, including repertoire reading days, championships, solo competitions, masterclasses and workshops. Its programs include the Young Band Person of the Year Award, while its website provides information about NSW brass, concert and school bands, contest results and association resources. BANSW’s work is especially focused on strengthening community bands and fostering an enduring musical culture throughout the region.
