About The Banking Association South Africa
The Banking Association of South Africa (BASA) is a key organization dedicated to advancing the interests of both domestic and international banks operating within the nation. It plays a vital role in promoting sustainable banking practices and enhancing the industry's contribution to South Africa's socio-economic development. BASA actively engages with regulators, legislators, and stakeholders to advocate for favorable legislation and regulations that positively affect the banking sector. Additionally, it works collaboratively to foster inclusive economic growth by creating a conducive policy environment.
BASA is focused on addressing critical challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and inequality by mobilizing the banking industry's skills and resources. As a member-driven association, it facilitates dialogue through various committees and work groups, ensuring that the voices of its members are heard. Moreover, BASA also hosts the Southern African Development Community Banking Association, which aims to strengthen the integrity and efficiency of banking services across the region. For individual banking complaints, customers are directed to the National Financial Ombudsman, as BASA does not handle individual issues directly.
