About Bareftp
Bareftp is a software brand that offers a file transfer client designed specifically for Linux desktops. This client is available under the GPL license and supports various protocols including FTP, FTPS, and SSH (SFTP). Built using C# for the Mono framework, with Gtk# for the user interface, Bareftp is continuously evolving to meet users' needs.
While still a young application, it is steadily gaining ground and starting to offer the bare essentials for a seamless file transfer experience. What sets Bareftp apart from other FTP clients is its focus on delivering an enhanced look and feel for the GTK/GNOME desktop. The project was started as a hobby by Damon Jones, an ordinary guy living in Berlin, Germany, who felt unsatisfied with the existing FTP clients.
Although currently available only for Linux, future versions may expand compatibility to include Windows. Bareftp owes inspiration to several projects, with special mention to gftp, an excellent FTP client that has unfortunately been left behind. The author expresses gratitude to the creators of these open-source software programs.
Key features of Bareftp include support for active and passive mode, FTP over SSL/TLS, SFTP via SSH, distributed PASV, resume and append capabilities, multithreading, multiple simultaneous transfers, bookmarks with secure password storage using Gnome Keyring, and drag-and-drop functionality. With its native GTK/GNOME look and feel, Bareftp offers a seamless and secure file transfer solution for Linux users
