Barnsleybiodiversity

Barnsley Biodiversity is a brand dedicated to preserving and conserving the rich biodiversity found in Barnsley. Their comprehensive website provides valuable information for anyone interested in the landscapes, habitats, and wildlife in the area. From wildlife records and sites to planning and development, Barnsley Biodiversity offers a wealth of resources and guidance.

They also actively support community-based projects and encourage volunteers to get involved. One particular focus of Barnsley Biodiversity is trees and woodlands. They provide a step-by-step guide called the Trees and Woodland Strategy Toolkit, which helps communities develop and deliver local tree and woodland strategies.

This toolkit includes tools for wildlife species search, surveys, management advice, and access to management plan templates. The brand also honors the contributions of naturalist Alwyn Timms, whose research and advocacy greatly impacted the Barnsley Biodiversity Trust. Alwyn was particularly involved in the study of butterflies and dragonflies, and his work continues to be celebrated and shared through the Barnsley Naturalist Society.

Additionally, Barnsley Biodiversity highlights the importance of the recently designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in the Dearne Valley Wetlands. This area is vital for nationally important bird species and contributes to the overall conservation efforts in the region. For those interested in creating and managing woodlands, supporting biodiversity, and combating climate change, Barnsley Biodiversity provides valuable resources and toolkits.

They aim to empower individuals and communities to make a positive impact on the environment. Stay connected with Barnsley Biodiversity by following them on social media, joining their mailing list, or participating in their open meetings. They welcome volunteers, expertise, and contributions to their community-based projects.

Together, we can protect and conserve the diverse wildlife of Barnsley
