About Barth Syndrome Foundation
Barth Syndrome Foundation (BSF) is a global volunteer organization committed to saving lives by providing education, advancements in treatment, and working towards finding a cure for Barth syndrome (BTHS). Established in 2000 after the first international conference held in Baltimore, MD (USA), BSF brings together families from around the world affected by BTHS to collaborate and find a solution for this multi-system disorder. The foundation emphasizes the importance of family participation in research and offers various ways to stay updated on advancements in science and medicine.
With a focus on science and research, BSF has been actively funding approved research into BTHS since January 2003. Grants are provided to investigators globally, supporting research on the biochemistry, genetics, creation of animal models, disease mechanisms, and collection of phenotypic data. BSF also offers family services, providing a community that offers information, guidance, and emotional support to Barth families.
