As children, Gunther and Maarten had a fondness for marshmallows, going through bags of them on a daily basis. However, when they tried them again as adults, they were disappointed by the taste.

This motivated them to create marshmallows so delicious that people would line up to buy them. After much experimenting and chocolate dipping, they perfected a fluffy vanilla bean marshmallow. They also invented the world's smallest chocolate bar, which they later added to their hot chocolates.

Inspired by a trip to the Antwerp zoo, they created full-sized chocolate hippos filled with salted caramel. While Gunther and Maarten were the masterminds behind their creations, Imke and Evelien joined the team to ensure a balanced approach. Barú has a team of passionate individuals who are always filled with ideas and eager to share their fabulous sweets with you.
