Barwon Timber and Hardware

Barwon Timber and Hardware in Geelong, VIC, is an independent family-owned business that has been operating since 1980. Originally starting out with cutting Oregon and Western Cedar at their mill in South Geelong, the company has expanded over the years to offer a wide range of building products and services. In addition to their timber cutting business, they also opened Bar-Truss in 1997, specializing in prefabricated floor systems, wall frames, and roof trusses.

In 2016, they acquired Drysdale Timber & Hardware, which operates under the Home Timber and Hardware banner as an independent store. All three businesses, Barwon Timber, Bar-Truss, and Drysdale Timber and Hardware, are 100% family-owned and independent, with family members actively involved in their management. Barwon Timber is committed to sustainability and environmentally responsible practices.

They stock certified timber products and encourage the use of readily renewable timber species. They also minimize waste and recycle/reuse products and equipment whenever possible. In their efforts to become a long-term sustainable business, they have installed a 30KW solar panel system to save energy and utilize green energy supplied by hydro plants in Tasmania when solar power is not available.

The company values its employees and strives to provide excellent products and industry knowledge. They attract and retain the best people for the timber and pre-fabrication industry, considering both critical skills and cultural fit within their family-oriented team. They also actively support local community groups through donations, fundraising, and participation in community events.
