Taranaki Thunder

Basketball Taranaki Inc. is the regional organisation dedicated to growing and developing basketball across Taranaki, New Zealand. Its vision is to make basketball “the sport of choice for life” by supporting lifelong participation, whether people play, coach, officiate or enjoy the game as part of the community. Guided by honesty, integrity and inclusiveness, the organisation aims to nurture personal character alongside sporting achievement and build a connected basketball community.

Basketball Taranaki offers pathways and resources for players, coaches, referees and scorebench officials. Its activities include representative programmes, competitions and events, such as Taranaki secondary school leagues, the Langton Cup and the Coach McKean Memorial Tournament. The organisation also provides coaching development, referee registration and resources, scorebench training, handbooks, registration information and online forms. Community programmes include Girls Got Game and BNZ Kiwi Hoops. Through its network of local basketball organisations and clubs, Basketball Taranaki supports participation and development throughout the region, helping people engage with the sport at different stages and in a range of roles.
