Batley Amateur Thespian Society (BATS) is a community theatre society based in Dewsbury, welcoming people who enjoy performing and taking part in live entertainment. Founded in October 1913 at Shelton’s café on Commercial Street in Batley, the society originally presented shows to raise funds for Batley and District Hospital. Its charitable tradition has continued since its founding.
BATS stages a varied programme of productions, including musicals and themed music shows featuring popular songs. Its upcoming production, Seasons of Song, brings together favourites from Country and Western, rock and roll, the swing era and pop. Performances are planned across four evenings in November 2026 at Longcauseway Church in Dewsbury, in a cabaret-style setting.
The society invites both new and returning members to join its productions, whether as part of the chorus or by performing a song of their choice. Rehearsals and regular society meetings take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Longcauseway Church.
