Batoto Yetu

Batoto Yetu Portugal (BYP) is a nonprofit cultural and youth association that works with children and young people interested in African culture, including participants from a range of economic backgrounds. Its mission is to support social integration by helping young people recognize and value their cultural roots, strengthening self-esteem and a sense of belonging.

The association brings its mission to life through artistic activities and community engagement. Its main artistic work includes performances of traditional African dance and percussion, alongside workshops where children and young people learn dance and percussion. BYP also offers Fado Dançado, combining its cultural programming with the Portuguese musical tradition of fado, and Mukishi workshops focused on making masks and other objects from agave wood. Other activities include guided visits, event performances and stalls, as well as social support for the immigrant community.

Based in Caxias and Lisbon, Batoto Yetu Portugal welcomes people who wish to participate through volunteering, internships or membership. The association also invites supporters to contribute through donations and partnerships.
