Bats Victoria is a volunteer-run Victorian charity dedicated to protecting the long-term survival of the state’s native flying-foxes and microbats. The organisation works to improve outcomes for bats through education, habitat preservation, advocacy, emergency response and rehabilitation, collaborating with communities, wildlife rescuers, carers, veterinarians and government agencies.

Bats play an important role in healthy ecosystems by pollinating native forests, dispersing seeds and controlling insect populations. They face threats including habitat loss, extreme weather, entanglement in backyard fruit-tree netting and barbed-wire fencing, and glue traps. Bats Victoria raises awareness of these risks and encourages practical ways to support native bats, including planting native trees and getting involved through volunteering and advocacy.

The organisation also directs people to emergency assistance when they find an injured flying-fox or microbat, while emphasising that bats should never be handled or rescued by members of the public. Bats Victoria welcomes donations to support its charitable work and provides educational information about why bats matter and the species found in Victoria.
