Battle of Gettysburg buffs

Battle of Gettysburg Buff is an independent educational website for Civil War enthusiasts, families, and visitors who want to explore the Battle of Gettysburg beyond the usual battlefield tour. Created by Randy Drais, a lifelong local resident and descendant of a Union soldier wounded at Gettysburg, the site draws on his extensive visits to the battlefield and town, including National Park Service ranger-led Battle Walks. Its focus is on lesser-known places, overlooked markers, unusual stories, and topics that encourage visitors to learn more about the battlefield and the wider Gettysburg Campaign.

The website offers more than 1,200 photographs, over 100 links, a reference map, an index, and organized guides to related resources. Topics include off-the-beaten-path locations, children’s activities, recommended Battle Walks, nearby Civil War sites, and books worth reading. Visitors can also explore newer historical topics, campaign stories, and unusual facts, with further pages and updates added over time. The site provides photo reports from walks, a selected directory of other history websites, and a free quarterly email newsletter, alongside a Facebook page for followers.
