Shobukan Inyo-Ryu Battojutsu introduces students to the Japanese arts of Battojutsu and Iaijutsu, focusing on drawing and using the katana. Training combines individual practice of kata, partner exercises and unscripted free practice. Techniques and forms draw largely on Toyama-Ryu. The practice is presented as a martial art rather than a competitive sport, with no tournaments or sporting comparisons.
The training aims to develop coordination, concentration and mobility, while encouraging respect for the sword and fellow students. It is open to people aged over 16 for wooden-sword training who bring interest, perseverance and respect; sessions are described as calm and suitable for less athletic participants. Introductory equipment can generally be provided for trial sessions.
Shobukan Inyo-Ryu offers group training at locations in Bayerisch-Eisenstein, Braunfels-Philippstein, Ottersberg and Siegen, with schedules varying by venue. Private and online individual training is also available through instructor Stephan Andreas, tailored to participants’ experience, goals and circumstances. A free trial session can be arranged by appointment.
