About Bayard Cutting Arboretum
Bayard Cutting Arboretum, located in Great River, NY, is a stunning destination that offers an oasis of beauty and tranquility for outdoor enthusiasts. Established in 1887, this arboretum was generously donated by Mrs. William Bayard Cutting and her daughter, Mrs.
Olivia James, in memory of William Bayard Cutting. The arboretum features an extensive collection of conifers, including fir, spruce, pine, cypress, hemlock, and yew, making it one of the most diverse on Long Island. Additionally, visitors can explore dwarf evergreens, rhododendron, azaleas, hollies, and oaks, as well as native woodland areas adorned with wildflowers and daffodils.
Beyond the beautiful plant life, the arboretum is home to a variety of bird species and occasional sightings of foxes, raccoons, and other wildlife. The former Cutting residence boasts magnificent fireplaces, stained glass windows, and a small natural history display. There is also a café with a scenic porch that overlooks the Connetquot River.
