Bayswater Historical Society is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting the history of Bayswater and its surrounding suburbs. Through its historical collection, research and community activities, the Society helps people explore the area’s past and learn about the people, places and developments that shaped it.
The Society’s resources and historical topics include the Halliday family and Halliday House, early land allotments, Bayswater’s transport and rail history, local dairy farms, and the hidden history of Bayswater. It also shares information through newsletters and events, and welcomes community participation through membership and volunteering.
Visitors can visit Leighton (Halliday House) at 114 King William Street, Bayswater. The Society is open from 9:30 a.m. to noon every Friday and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of each month, February to November; visits at other times are by appointment. The Society acknowledges the Wadjuk Noongar people as the traditional custodians of the land and pays respect to their continuing connection to country and culture.
