About Tenant And Neighborhood Councils
Tenant and Neighborhood Councils (TANC) is an autonomous tenant union that operates in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our mission is to empower tenants, including those residing in public housing or experiencing homelessness, to organize and protect their rights. Unlike non-profit organizations that address specific issues, we tackle the larger structural problem of housing subjugation under capitalism.
By organizing collectively, we aim to challenge well-heeled landlords, developers, and state managers, who prioritize profit over the well-being of tenants. We understand that housing struggles are interconnected and disproportionately affect working-class individuals, especially people of color. From fighting against discrimination and exploitation to addressing rising rents and evictions, we believe that our struggles are collective ones rooted in the capitalist housing market.
Our goal is to build power and create a future in which housing is allocated based on necessity, not profit. Join us and let's fight for lower rents, timely maintenance, an end to landlord harassment, and other crucial housing issues. Contact us to get involved
