BCFMWU (BC Ferry & Marine Workers' Union) is a leading maritime union in Canada, with a rich history that dates back to June 17, 1978, when they signed their first Collective Agreement. After emerging victorious from two years of legal battles, BCFMWU became the sole bargaining agent for all ferry workers, including licensed officers. The introduction of the Coastal Ferry Act in 2003 by the government, with the intention of privatization, led to a fleet-wide strike and public protest.

The ensuing negotiations culminated in a nine-year Collective Agreement, which marked the beginning of the ongoing Exclusion/Inclusion battle. Under the leadership of Provincial President Eric McNeely, BCFMWU now represents over 3600 members from various trade backgrounds, ships' officers, commercial services drivers, and unlicensed workers, both at sea and on land. They strive to provide the best possible support to their members, which include mental health services through Homewood Health, the Canadian leader in this field.
