About BCRI
The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the civil rights struggle in Birmingham, Alabama, and the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. The BCRI Archives collect and house a vast array of records and documents that provide a comprehensive understanding of this important era. The collection showcases the evolution and progress of interracial cooperation, both locally and globally, in the movement for civil and human rights.
Scholars and professionals interested in global civil rights developments will find the BCRI Archives particularly valuable. The Archives team is responsible for selecting, appraising, and processing materials to ensure comprehensive and meaningful access for researchers. In-person research appointments can be arranged by contacting the Archives.
