About Beach Recovery Foundation
Beach Recovery is a coastal restoration initiative founded by Gregory Sarno in 2002 to demonstrate how eroding shorelines could be rebuilt by working with natural water movement. Its early work focused on developing and documenting a beach recovery system, including a geotextile containment pilot first deployed around 2000 and revisited through photographs over the following years. Sarno incorporated the company in 2004 and recorded coastlines season after season to provide dated evidence of change.
After a car crash halted fieldwork in 2008, the organisation’s focus expanded to include an art gallery and a foundation. Today, Beach Recovery Foundation preserves and shares the project’s broader legacy through photographs, time-lapse films, news, leadership information, and collaborations with artists. Its work includes Art into the Sea, involving canvases carried by nearshore structures and filmed for Saving BÚ, as well as documentation of Sarno’s 2016 address to the United Nations on beach erosion.
Beach Recovery no longer provides shoreline recovery services; engineering and installation are now handled by independent company Basalt International
