Bear Lake Watch is a community-focused organization dedicated to protecting and preserving Bear Lake for present and future generations. Its mission is to keep the lake clean, deep, and blue by supporting water-quality and water-quantity protection, reducing sediment and nutrient impacts, and combating aquatic invasive species. The organization works with researchers, public agencies, businesses, and community members to advance practical conservation efforts.
Its activities include scientific reporting, shoreline data collection, USGS water-quality monitoring resources, and the Bear Lake Data Repository, an open-access resource for environmental datasets. Bear Lake Watch also supports an aquatic invasive species inspection and decontamination station on the Idaho side of the lake, developed with partners and funded through community support. Other initiatives address Eurasian watermilfoil, sediment reduction, shoreline fluctuations, and invasive species.
The organization invites people to participate through donations, volunteering, petitions, mailing-list updates, and conservation tips. It also shares lake information, research, and community events, including the Merlin Olsen Summer Classic.
