About Beating Hearts Malta
Beating Hearts Malta (BHM) is an independent non-profit foundation that aims to support parents of children born with a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) by providing them with practical advice and a platform to share their experiences. BHM was founded in December 2011 by a collaborative effort of Dr Edward Callus, Prof Victor Grech, and Katrina Aquilina, who identified the need for a support group in Malta. The foundation also aims to raise awareness about CHD and educate social care professionals, employers, insurers, and the general public.
BHM acts as a reference point for information and assistance, particularly for Maltese patients and parents travelling overseas for CHD-related surgeries. In addition, BHM is working towards providing psychological support to parents and developing insurance proposals for individuals with CHD. Through fundraising activities, BHM plans to expand its reach and contribute to further research in the field of CHD
