Beautiful Distress Foundation
@beautifuldistress.org
Beautiful Distress is a foundation that is committed to making psychological vulnerabilities visible and tangible through art. We want to encourage open dialogue on this subject, that is often still seen as taboo. Our foundation tries to create more compassion and understanding for people who suffer from mental illness, and thereby contribute to an inclusive society. Since 2014, Beautiful Distress organizes international artist in residence programs on psychiatry wards. During these programs, professional artists live and work on location for three months, while they observe the world of psychiatry. They convert their visions and experiences into art. Beautiful Distress has a beautiful exhibition and project space in Amsterdam North, next to the NDSM wharf: The Beautiful Distress House. There we create a participatory, inclusive and diverse environment where everyone feels at home and where ideas and experiences can be freely shared and discussed. There is room for exhibitions of the work of the artists from the residencies and other artists.

About Beautiful Distress Foundation
Beautiful Distress is a brand that was founded on the belief that there is a significant amount of mental suffering in the world, and not enough is being done to address it. Their mission is to use art as a means of opening up the conversation around mental health and challenging the stigma associated with psychiatry. Beautiful Distress collaborates with talented artists who share their vision, using their work to articulate and depict the complex nature of the human condition.
Through their exhibitions and events, Beautiful Distress aims to make mental vulnerabilities visible, tangible, and discussable. They also offer a contact form on their website for those interested in getting in touch. Based in Amsterdam, Beautiful Distress is dedicated to making a positive impact in the field of mental health through the power of art
