BE-FAID, short for Belgian Federation Active In Disasters, is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting volunteers and promoting a risk culture among the Belgian population. Founded in April 2023, BE-FAID consists of dedicated volunteers from the three Belgian regions who played a crucial role in the aftermath of the devastating 2021 floods. One of BE-FAID's key achievements was their collaboration with the de facto association Citizens CAN from July 2021 to June 2022.

Together, they mediated between volunteers and private and public actors, resolving conflicts that arose in the chaotic aftermath of the floods. This effort greatly enhanced the efficiency of relief efforts in the hardest-hit areas. Drawing upon their extensive network and experience, BE-FAID aims to address the significant gaps revealed by the 2021 disaster.

They seek to better prepare Belgian society for future crises, whether ecological or otherwise. To achieve this, they support the creation of citizen cells for crisis intervention in Belgian municipalities and connect them with the network of authorities responsible for crisis prevention and management. With BE-FAID's dedication and proactive approach, they are working towards a safer and more resilient Belgian society
