BeFo, the Swedish Rock Engineering Research Foundation (Stiftelsen Bergteknisk Forskning), supports research and development in underground construction in rock. Based in Stockholm, the foundation works to promote safe, sustainable and cost-effective rock construction, helping strengthen both the industry and society. Its work is relevant to a growing sector in Sweden, where underground projects represent substantial investment each year and research can contribute to more efficient practices.
BeFo’s activities include research funding, defined research areas and studies, and resources for project implementers. The foundation also shares knowledge through publications and related events, including the Nordic Grouting Symposium, which brings together people interested in grouting to exchange experience. Companies and organisations with an interest in developing the rock engineering sector may be accepted as foundation principals by the board.
Due to changes affecting its research funding, BeFo has paused the handling of new applications for the remainder of 2026 and expects to reopen applications provisionally at the end of March 2027. The foundation provides updates through its website and LinkedIn.
