About Belfast Healthy Cities
Belfast Healthy Cities is a brand dedicated to promoting a healthy, equitable, and sustainable city. With a vision of global recognition, Belfast Healthy Cities collaborates with various stakeholders including government departments, universities, private and public sectors, voluntary and community sectors, to work towards their goals. They focus on key areas such as community prosperity, greening the city, healthy transport, knowledge and training, and capacity building.
Belfast Healthy Cities follows a partnership-based approach, aligning their efforts with the city's Community plan, the Belfast Agenda, and the region's public health framework, Making Life Better. They develop the city health profile to gain insights into the factors affecting the well-being of Belfast's citizens and to identify health inequalities. Moreover, they actively engage citizens in defining their health needs and support their involvement in decision-making processes.
As part of their commitment to the World Health Organization (WHO) Network, Belfast Healthy Cities identifies three areas of good practice to share with other cities for mutual learning and inspiration. They also develop annual operational plans for progress review and assessment by stakeholders and WHO Europe.
